Lagos Governor Swaps Office for the Runway at Lagos Fashion Week
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu gave the crowd at Lagos Fashion Week something they did not expect when he took to the runway for veteran menswear designer Ugo Monye.
Sanwo-Olu later took to his verified X handle, @jidesanwoolu, to explain that he had stepped away from the usual business of governance to walk for the designer. Photos shared from the night show him moving down the catwalk in a flowing off-white agbada paired with a matching fila gobi cap.
Why he did it
The governor said the appearance was his way of backing the state's creative economy. “Lagos continues to grow as a home for fashion, creativity and culture and I am always happy to support the people driving this growth,” he wrote.
Lagos Fashion Week is one of Africa's leading fashion events, pulling designers, buyers and fashion lovers from across the continent to celebrate indigenous creativity and craftsmanship.
