Deadly Ground – Family EP

Introducing The Family EP, a powerful EP consisting songs by Namibian musicians such as Dark Vapour, Reyne, Exile, CJP, and Carry K from Deadly Ground Records. Each artist brings unique stories inspired by real-life experiences, with songs that address love, gender-based violence, and the absence of friends and family. Over the past two years, these Namibian musicians have been meeting in the studio, collaborating and creating a family-like bond.

The Family EP is a blend of dancehall, hip hop, and Afro-fusion, showcasing the richness of Namibian music. Through shared musical experiences whether in the studio, social engagements, or casual jam sessions the artists have cultivated self-expression, self-discovery, and improved physical and mental health. Music festivals, concerts, and these intimate collaborations have united The Family Project in a celebration of Namibia’s diverse sounds. Every track on this EP carries a meaningful backstory, highlighting music’s universal ability to connect, heal, and build lasting bonds in Namibian culture.

Namibian musician Exile Isaack (Exile) releases “One,” a heartfelt song reflecting on love, loss, and redemption. Inspired by the enduring bond he shares with the mother of his son, despite their separation, “One” highlights Exile’s journey through personal highs and lows in life and music. Dedicated to his former partner and son, the track captures his resilience and gratitude, affirming that she will always hold a special place in his heart.

Namibian musician Caroline K Amutenya (Carry K) dedicates her heartfelt song, “HIM,” to God, reflecting on her challenging life journey. Surrendered to a distant family member at age two, despite both parents being alive, Carry K struggled with feelings of abandonment and hardship, leading her to question her worth and purpose. In “HIM,” she expresses the turmoil of her youth, the labels she endured, and her search for peace. Yet, through faith, she found strength, rising after every setback with a renewed spirit. Music, comedy, and her career have become her pillars of hope, and she is determined to reach her full potential, honoring the faith that sustained her.

Namibian artist Johannes Fortuin (CJP) shares a message of friendship and resilience in his song, “Friend.” Through heartfelt lyrics, CJP expresses the value of having someone who stands by you in times of loneliness, pain, and need. “Friend emphasizes gratitude for the small but genuine connections in life, as CJP reflects on how true friendships sustain us without the need for worldly validation. His own journey of self-discovery included entering rehab to overcome challenges with mental health, substance abuse, and unresolved anger. Now, transformed by the experience, he sees the importance of surrounding himself with true friends who uplift. With this song, CJP reminds listeners of the profound impact a genuine friend can have, especially when life feels overwhelming.

Namibian artist Reyne Liswaniso (Reyne) opens up about a painful chapter of his life in the powerful track “Murderer.” The song recounts his experience with a toxic relationship that escalated to public scrutiny, as his involvement with a celebrity drew media attention. Following a mutual heartbreak, Reyne grappled with intense feelings of anger, regret, and even vengeance, as his reputation was damaged. At his lowest, burdened by the losses of loved ones Roger and Eclipse, he found himself sinking into self-destructive habits.

Murderer is a song of self-reflection and redemption. Reyne shares how he came to realize that while he couldn’t control what happened to him, he could control his response. Choosing to let go of resentment, he decided he didn’t want to be a “murderer” or a “perpetrator.” This track serves as a testament to self-control, healing, and the strength to rise above pain without inflicting it on others.

Namibian artist Victoria Hiskia (Dark Vapour) teams up with CJP in her powerful and reflective song, “Where Are We Going.” This track is a heartfelt call to action, emphasizing that each of us has a role in making society better. Inspired by the hardships and injustices she’s observed and personally experienced, Dark Vapour confronts issues affecting households, workplaces, schools, and communities. She questions society’s indifference to suffering, pleading in the lyrics, “Lord wash our sins away… My sisters are dying and brothers are fighting.”

“Where Are We Going” is both a prayer and a plea, urging listeners to consider the state of justice and the growing gap between community and accountability. Dark Vapour uses her creative voice to speak up, expressing her conviction that it’s crucial to address societal pain and offer support. Her personal journey of overcoming pain, particularly as a young girl lacking family support during difficult times, reinforces the song’s message that healing and change begin with individual responsibility.
